Built in the 1820's, the Adria House gives the discerning guest the opportunity to live in a property forming part of the city's New Town which visitors from around the world come to admire. The Playhouse Theatre, Scotland's home to the West End Musicals, is just around the corner as is the Omni leisure and entertainment centre with it's 12 screen Vue Cinema complex and Jongleurs Comedy Club. Only a further 5 minutes walk away onto Queen Street is another comedy club The Stand and Jools Holland's live music venue The Jam House. For those of you requiring a little retail therapy - Princes Street, George Street, John Lewis, St. James Shopping Centre, Princes Mall, Jenners, Harvey Nichols and Multrees Walk are all on the doorstep too. Also just a short stroll away and standing against the spectacular backdrop of Arthur's Seat is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty the Queen. Continue up the Royal MileHigh Street and make your way to Edinburgh Castle which is perched on an extinct volcano. This instantly recognisable fortress is a powerful national symbol. This 200 year old building is situated within a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was once a fashionable society house. Today the Adria still embodies much of the Georgian architecture and decorative elegance associated with the period found within Edinburgh's New Town. The cobbled Royal Terrace is the longest continuous terrace in the New Town. The houses are only built on one side of the street and there is a generous amount of open space. It was also once nick-named Whisky Row after the rich merchant families once resident here who bought the then new properties and from the upper floors could view their ships return to Leith from trading trips.Built on and around seven hills, Edinburgh is a remarkable place in which surprising changes of level occur at every turn. Calton Hill where we are situated being one of them. Climb the Calton Hill and enjoy the superb views of Edinburgh from this unique vantage point and find out why the city is known as the Athens of the North. The seclusion offered by the treelined, terraced gardens skirting Calton Hill, yet the close proximity of the Adria to the city centre, provides guests with an ideal location just to rest or explore Edinburgh from this base. Venture out on foot or, for those travelling further afield, use of the excellent bus service available close at hand. It's easy to get around the whole city using the local bus service so, for unlimited travel all day why not purchase a day ticket for £2.50. A short bus journey North will take you to Edinburgh's stylish new waterfront retail and leisure development in the historic port of Leith. Here you will find the Royal Yacht Britannia which has moved to her final berth at Ocean Terminal. The efficient bus service can also take you all the way out to the stunning 15th century Rosslyn Chapel to the South of the city, the picturesque Cramond Village to the West and the rocky beaches of Seton Sands to the East. The Adria House has been family run for over 25 years and endeavors to ensure guests experience a friendly and comfortable stay in what will promise to be a memorable visit to Edinburgh, the Festival City.
